Capabilities may be provided by any party in the ecosystem - eBay, Inc. itself, a system integrator, an ISV, an independent developer - and are incorporated into a solution without any point-to-point integration. Capabilities are able to operate collaboratively without explicit knowledge of each other via the X.commerce Open Commerce Language (XOCL). The XOCL is a retail commerce language that defines the syntax and semantics of message-based interactions between capabilities in the X.commerce ecosystem. XOCL is actively developed in an open source development model (see https://github.com/xcommerce/X.commerce-Contracts) with contribution from a diverse set of industry product and solution providers.\n \nXOCL enables merchants to describe the rich semantics of their commerce data once and have a choice of current and future capabilities act on them. XOCL defines a set of versioned message contracts, one for each retail commerce domain, enforced by the X.commerce Fabric - an asynchronous, topic-oriented, multi-tenant messaging bus.\nXOCL opens numerous possibilities for future commerce capabilities such as pricing engines that scour the web to establish the best offer price for a merchant product, efficiently syndicate product information across diverse sales and marketing channels, and so on.
